The process

A website project that doesn't run over.

The thing municipalities fear most about a website project is a redesign that drags on for a year, blows the budget, and ends with a tool nobody on staff can use. We built our process to remove all three risks: a fixed scope before you sign, a 6–8 week timeline, and training that leaves your team genuinely in control.

What the engagement looks like

Discovery & demo

We start with a 30-minute demo and a conversation: your current site, who manages it, what frustrates your staff, your brand, and your timeline. We'll sign an NDA before you share anything internal. You leave knowing whether Munikit is a fit — no pressure either way.

Week 0 · what we need: a look at your current site

Fixed-scope quote & statement of work

We write a detailed statement of work: exactly what's included, the content types you'll have, the migration plan, the timeline, and a fixed price. Your council or manager reviews a number that won't move. Nothing is built until you approve it.

Week 1 · procurement docs & references available on request

Theme design — your brand, not a template

We design your municipality's complete look: logo placement, colors, typography, and layout, applied consistently across every page and component. You review a real design, give feedback, and sign off before we build it out. The result looks unmistakably like your town.

Weeks 1–3 · what we need: your logo & brand colors

Configuration & content migration

We configure your content types and migrate your existing content — news, staff, departments, services, meetings, documents — into the new structure. You're not left copying and pasting hundreds of pages by hand; that's our job.

Weeks 2–5 · what we need: access to your current content

Staff training

We train the people who'll actually run the site — usually your clerk and one or two others — with a live walkthrough and plain-language documentation. By the end, your staff can post news, manage meetings, and send an emergency alert without calling anyone. This is the step that makes the difference between a site you own and a site you depend on a vendor for.

Week 5–6 · what we need: an hour with your web staff

Launch & DNS cutover

We set up hosting in your account and your region, do a final accessibility and content review, and cut over your domain. Your new site goes live. We're on hand through go-live to catch anything.

Weeks 6–8 · includes 30 days of post-launch support

Handover — the keys are yours

We deliver the source code to your repository and confirm you hold the database and hosting accounts. From here, your team runs the site. Renew annually for updates if you want them, hand maintenance to a local developer, or come back to us for a support retainer — your call, always.

At launch · you own the code & content from day one

We do the heavy lifting. Here's the light lifting we need from you.

A municipal website project usually stalls because the vendor needs decisions and content the town is slow to provide. We keep your list short and concrete, so the project doesn't wait on you any more than it has to.

  • A point of contact (usually your clerk or administrator)
  • Your logo and brand colors — or we'll help you pick them
  • Access to your current website's content for migration
  • One review-and-feedback round on the theme design
  • About an hour of your web staff's time for training
  • Sign-off on the fixed-scope quote before we begin

Everything your purchasing process needs.

We know a website purchase has to clear a budget line, sometimes a council vote, and a procurement checklist. We come ready for all three.

Fixed-scope SOW

A detailed, fixed-price statement of work you can attach to a purchase order or council agenda item — no open-ended hourly billing.

Procurement documentation

Proof of insurance, business registration, and references available on request, formatted for your procurement file.

Proof you can check yourself

We're a founding-stage vendor, so we won't pretend to have a long reference list. Instead, ask for live demo credentials and evaluate the actual admin yourself — and we'll connect you with founding clients directly as we launch them.
